Saudi Arabia destroys 6 explosive-laden Houthi drones

Dubai: The Saudi-led Arab Coalition on Wednesday said it intercepted and destroyed six explosive-laden drones launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militia targeting Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) has reported.

Military coalition spokesman Colonel Turki Al Maliki said: “The Joint Coalition Forces have intercepted and destroyed today (Wednesday) six bomb-laden drones that were launched deliberately and systematically by the terrorist Houthi militia to target civilians and civilian facilities in the Kingdom.”

The spokesman said that Houthis and their backers are continuing their crimes by targeting civilians and civilian facilities.

He said such terrorist attempts are blatant contraventions to the customary international humanitarian law and flagrant contradictions of humanitarian values.

“These hostile attempts reflect the militia’s terrorist conduct through adopting terrorist operations carried out by launching bomb-laden drones that target civilians, as well as the state of desperation the militia is facing due to heavy losses sustained on equipment and terrorist elements, specifically in Ma’rib and Al Jawf Governorates,” Al Maliki added.

Al Maliki added that the coalition forces will take on all the necessary operational precautions to protect civilians and civilian facilities and will hold the ones responsible for plotting and executing these hostile, terrorist attacks against civilians and civilian objects to account in accordance with the customary international humanitarian law.

Wednesday’s attack is the latest in a series of attempted attacks by the Houthis targeting Saudi Arabia in recent weeks.
