Abu Dhabi: A Yemeni soccer player and his son were killed on Saturday, while three other children were injured after a mortar shell, fired by the Al Houthi militia, fell on a stadium during a training session, according to government sources.

A government official in Taiz (southwest) said a shell fired by the militias fell on the Al Ahly club stadium during the training of Naser Arraymi, a former player in Al Tali’a club, where he was training his son and other friends, killing the player along with his son Imran and wounding three other children.

The theocratic Al Houthi militants were bombarding neighbourhoods in downtown Taiz as usual this Saturday morning, Saba news agency reported.

The militia besieging Taiz for years frequently kills and injures civilians with bombardment from hilltops overlooking the town, Saba said.

Yemeni Minister of Information, Muammar Al Eryani, condemned “the heinous terrorist crime committed by the Al Houthi militia.”

Al Eryani wrote on his Twitter account: “This heinous terrorist crime is an extension of the Iranian-backed Al Houthi militia’s approach to bombing civilian infrastructure and killing civilians in cold blood, in blatant violation of international humanitarian law, a war crime and crimes against humanity.”
